Lawn fertilization usually happens 2-3 times a year depending what kind of grass it is and what it's used for. Things like trees, shrubs, and ground covers are usually fertilized once a year. The length you cut your grass to influences how often it needs to be watered and what it can be used for. If your grass is mostly just used for visual greenery and isn't used for sports or other activities, you can usually let it grow a little longer to about 2.5 inches. However, if you have a field that's used for sports or other things, it usually needs to be shorter and mowed more often. These fields are typically around 1.5-2 inches tall and need to be mowed and watered more frequently as a result.
